Nigeria’s Super Falcons concluded their final preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars in an international friendly played in Morocco.
Head coach Justin Madugu handed Chiamaka Nnadozie the goalkeeping role, while Oluwatosin Demehin, Shukurat Oladipo, Sikiratu Isah and Rofiat Imuran formed the defensive line. Christy Ucheibe, Jennifer Echegini and Toni Payne operated in midfield, with Omorinsola Babajide, captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Asisat Oshoala leading the attack.
The African champions started brightly and were rewarded early when Babajide delivered a precise ball into the path of Ajibade. The captain kept her composure to finish the opportunity and put Nigeria in front.
Madugu made his first change shortly before the interval, bringing Glory Ogbonna on for Imuran as the Falcons went into the break with their advantage intact.
Nigeria continued to make adjustments after the restart, with Folashade Ijamilusi, Uchenna Kanu, Michelle Alozie and Joy Omewa introduced as the coaching staff explored different tactical options.
Further substitutions followed, as Esther Okoronkwo, Osinachi Ohale and Halimatu Ayinde entered the game for Ucheibe, Isah and Omewa.
The Twiga Stars refused to give up and eventually found an equaliser in the 79th minute, setting up a dramatic closing period.
With the match seemingly heading towards a draw, Okoronkwo produced the decisive moment in the 89th minute. The forward received an excellent pass from Ajibade before calmly beating the Tanzanian defence to restore Nigeria’s lead.
Ajibade ended the contest as the standout performer, contributing a goal and an assist as the Super Falcons secured a morale-boosting victory in their final test before the WAFCON campaign.
The result gives the ten-time African champions added confidence as they prepare to begin their continental title defence, with Madugu now set to turn his attention fully to the tournament.
