Residents of Ila-Orangun, Osun State, have been urged not to panic over the sound of gunfire as the Nigeria Police Mobile Training College (Forest Camp) prepares to conduct a routine live-fire training exercise.
In a statement released on Thursday, the training college announced that the exercise will hold on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at its approved shooting range in Ila-Orangun.
According to the college, the exercise forms part of its regular training programme aimed at improving the firearms handling skills and operational preparedness of Mobile Police officers.
The authorities advised residents, farmers, hunters, and other individuals who frequent the surrounding forest areas to stay away from the training range throughout the exercise. They also appealed to members of the public not to be disturbed by the sound of gunfire, stressing that the drill will be conducted under strict safety measures.
The Commandant of the college, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anietie Eyoh, assured residents that the exercise is solely for training purposes and does not pose any danger to the public. He thanked the host community for its continued cooperation and encouraged residents to continue their daily activities while remaining vigilant and security-conscious.
