Students of the University of Ilesa have been challenged to embrace integrity, innovation and responsible leadership as they prepare for future roles in society.

The charge was given by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, Ph.D., FCA, during the grand finale of the institution’s 2026 Students’ Week Celebration tagged “Evening with the Vice Chancellor” held at the University’s campus.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Asaolu drew inspiration from Aristotle’s famous observation that educating the mind without educating the heart amounts to incomplete education, noting that the University places equal emphasis on intellectual development and character formation.

He stated that the institution’s vision is to produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also possess the moral values and social consciousness needed to contribute meaningfully to society.

“The global stage demands not only academic excellence but also innovation, adaptability, integrity, empathy and leadership. This generation needs individuals who can think critically, act responsibly and inspire positive change,” the Vice Chancellor declared.

Prof. Asaolu assured students that the University administration would continue to invest in programmes and initiatives that support teaching, learning, research, entrepreneurship and innovation.
He further commended students for their discipline and sportsmanship throughout the week-long activities, describing the celebration as a reflection of the vibrant and dynamic student community within the University.
In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Education in Osun State, Hon. Sunday Adedipo Eluwole, praised the rapid transformation taking place within the institution and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining its growth.
He observed that the University had achieved remarkable progress within a short period through improved infrastructure, quality academic programmes and sound governance systems.
The Mother of the Day, Mrs. Adebisi Oluwatoyin Fadeyibi, advised students to shun shortcuts and dishonest practices, warning that such actions often result in shame, disappointment and regret.
Also speaking, the South-West Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, urged students to become advocates for justice and good governance while actively participating in the democratic process.
The event featured exciting entertainment, networking opportunities and student recognitions, while the emergence and crowning of the new Miss UNILESA provided a glamorous ending to an evening filled with celebration and inspiration.
