The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, Ph.D, FCA, has called for a stronger and more fruitful partnership between the Osun State Government and the University as the Executive Governor of the State, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, begins his second term in office.
The Vice Chancellor made the call while speaking at a special celebration organised by the Staff Representatives of the University to mark Governor Adeleke’s re-election in the August 15, 2026 Governorship Election.
Prof. Asaolu congratulated the Governor on what he described as a “well-deserved victory,” while expressing deep appreciation for the support and encouragement which the Adeleke administration had continued to extend to the University of Ilesa. He noted that the interventions of the State Government were particularly meaningful to an institution that was still young and growing.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the State Government had shown a clear appreciation of the strategic importance of the University to the future of Osun State. He said, “the future of Osun State is inseparably linked to the quality of education and human capital the University develops today.”
He commended Governor Adeleke’s commitment to the advancement of education and his recognition of the University as an important partner in the development of Osun State. He assured the Governor that the institution would continue to justify the confidence reposed in it by producing highly skilled graduates, undertaking impactful research and promoting innovations capable of addressing societal challenges.
Prof. Asaolu expressed confidence that the University would attain even greater distinction and impact during the Governor’s second term if the existing partnership was strengthened. He prayed for divine wisdom, good health, strength and guidance for the Governor, adding that his second term should usher in “greater development, peace, prosperity and unity” for the people of Osun State.
In his message on behalf of the Staff Representatives, Mr. Abiodun Adeleke described the celebration as a demonstration of gratitude for an administration that had shown commitment to the welfare of workers and the development of the University. He said the true measure of government was not merely what was said, but what was done to improve workers’ conditions, protect their interests and enhance their dignity.
Mr. Adeleke highlighted several interventions, including the payment of 30 months’ outstanding peculiar allowance owed to staff who transited from the former Osun State College of Education to the University, conversion of 230 temporary staff to permanent staff, fresh staff appointments, regular and timely promotions, improved remuneration for academic staff and the tarring of the University’s internal roads.
He declared that the staff had “seen the support, experienced the interventions, felt the impacts and sincerely appreciate the government,” describing the development as evidence of a government that believed in the University. The event concluded with prayers of thanksgiving and supplication for the Governor’s second term, while staff reaffirmed their commitment to the continued growth of the University and the advancement of Osun State.
