Shooting Stars SC opened their 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign with a 2-1 win over debutants Inter Lagos at Lekan Salami Stadium on Friday.
Lucky Emmanuel gave the Oluyole Warriors an early lead in the 12th minute, but Inter Lagos levelled through Adigun Damilare in the 32nd minute. Shooting Stars regained the advantage shortly before half-time when Sodiq Ibrahim converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-1.
The second half was largely dominated by Shooting Stars as they pressed for a third goal, but Inter Lagos’ defence held firm and the visitors were unable to score. Late drama came when substitute Qamar Adegoke was fouled in stoppage time to win a penalty for Inter Lagos; Adams stepped up but saw his spot-kick crash off the crossbar.
Shooting Stars now turn their attention to continental duty, travelling to Abeokuta next Saturday for a CAF Confederation Cup tie against CS Sfaxien. Inter Lagos will return to Lagos to prepare for their next league fixture away to Katsina United next week.
Attendance at Lekan Salami Stadium was buoyed by home supporters, who witnessed a competitive opening-day clash between an experienced side and a promising newcomer
