Coach Hakeem Busari Reflects on the Flamingos’ Qualification Victory describing Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup as a hard-fought achievement following their victory over Benin Republic.
Speaking after the match, Busari noted that the encounter was indeed a tough one, describing it as a contest between two familiar sides. He explained that both teams share similar culture and style, which made the game more competitive and difficult.
“There is a sense of brotherhood in games like this, in terms of style and approach, so it was not an easy match from the start.” He said.
The Coach highlighted the tactical adjustments made during the game, revealing that the team had to switch formations to gain better control. According to him, the Flamingos moved from a 4-3-3 setup to a more compact structure, which helped them manage the threats posed by their opponents and maintain possession.
Busari acknowledged the players for their character, and understanding of the game plan, both on and off the pitch as he also understands the players character on and off the pitch alongside the technical crews. He added that the team remained focused on the basics and executed their strategy effectively despite the pressure of playing away from home.
He also acknowledged the quality of the Benin Republic side, commending their courage, talent, and strong performance throughout the qualifiers.
Coach Busari also added “We faced a very good team. “They showed great strength and quality, and they deserve credit for their performance.”
Nigeria’s qualification confirms the Flamingos’ place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, following a determined display over both legs.
