Osun 2026: ADC Promises Issue-Based Campaign, 20,000 Youth Jobs in First 100 Days

The spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship campaign in Osun State, Adebisi Nurein Debo, has declared that the party has emerged as a formidable opposition force ahead of the 2026 governorship election, promising an issue-based campaign anchored on youth empowerment, good governance and people-centred policies.

Debo made the assertion on Friday while speaking at the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Guest Platform, where he outlined the party’s campaign strategy and defended the candidature of the ADC governorship flag bearer, Najeem Salaam.

According to him, the ADC has recorded remarkable political growth over the past year, transforming from a relatively unknown platform into a serious contender in Osun politics.

“A year ago, nobody spoke about the ADC. Today, one year and five days later, the ADC has become a serious opposition coalition and a force to reckon with in Osun politics,” he said.

Debo stressed that the party would not pursue electoral victory through violence, intimidation or electoral malpractice, insisting that its campaign would focus on ideas and policies capable of improving the lives of the people.

He said Salaam’s governorship ambition is driven by a well-defined 10-point agenda centred on workers’ welfare, agriculture, security, commerce, business development, improved electricity supply and economic growth without imposing additional taxes on residents.

The ADC spokesperson also pledged that, if elected, a Salaam administration would deliver people-oriented governance, expressing confidence that at least 70 per cent of the party’s campaign promises would be fulfilled within the first three years in office.

Debo further alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun had engaged in what he described as “political agenda theft,” although he did not provide specific examples to support the claim.

Speaking on the influence of former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, he described the former minister as a respected political figure whose relationship with Salaam has strengthened the ADC candidate’s popularity across the state.

“Aregbesola is a mentor and leader to Najeem Salaam,” Debo stated.

On the lingering local government crisis in Osun, Debo blamed both the APC and the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing the former of abusing power while describing the current government’s handling of the situation as incompetent.

He also alleged the existence of what he termed a “dangerous political trade by barter between Abuja and Osogbo” over the local government dispute, while questioning Governor Adeleke’s endorsement of what he described as “his tormentor-in-chief.”

Debo disclosed that an ADC-led government would prioritise talent discovery and youth development, promising to create 20,000 jobs within the first 100 days of a Salaam administration.

He concluded by condemning vote buying and vote selling, urging residents to reject inducement at the polls..

“Collect whatever money they give you because it belongs to the people, but vote according to your conscience,” he said.
