Chairman of the Delta State Athletics Association and Managing Consultant, Dunamics Icon Ltd, Sir Malik Itiako Ikpokpo, has congratulated Blessing Ogundiran following her outstanding victory in the women’s 100 metres at the ongoing All Nigeria Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games Trials in Lagos.
Ogundiran, who recently emerged as Nigeria’s new women’s 100m champion, delivered an impressive performance to claim the national title, further cementing her status as one of the country’s brightest sprint prospects.
Speaking with journalists after the race, Ikpokpo described the athlete’s success as a reward for years of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to her craft.
“The story of Blessing Ogundiran is the story of a young woman who knows exactly where she is headed. Her discipline, hard work and resilience have brought her to this remarkable moment, and she deserves every bit of this success,” he said.
The Delta athletics boss praised the former Delta State athlete, who is now based in the United States, for remaining focused on her development and continuing to raise the bar in Nigerian athletics.
According to him, Ogundiran’s triumph serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across the country and reinforces the importance of proper athlete development, consistency, and determination in achieving success at the highest level.
As a mark of appreciation for her achievement, Ikpokpo announced a cash reward for the newly crowned national champion, describing the gesture as both recognition of her performance and encouragement for greater accomplishments in the future.
He expressed confidence that the sprinter would continue her impressive rise and play a significant role for Team Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
“Blessing has shown that Nigerian athletes can compete with the very best when given the right support and opportunities. I have no doubt that she will continue to make the country proud on the international stage,” Ikpokpo added.
Ogundiran’s victory at the national trials has heightened expectations ahead of Glasgow 2026, where she is expected to be one of Nigeria’s leading medal hopes in the sprint events.
