Ivorian football legend Yaya Touré has taken a major step in his coaching career after being appointed head coach of Slovak champions ŠK Slovan Bratislava.The 43-year-old former midfielder arrives in Slovakia after building his coaching credentials across several countries and roles.

Touré began his coaching journey as assistant manager at Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine before taking up a similar role with Akhmat Grozny in Russia. He also worked as an academy coach at Tottenham Hotspur, helping to develop young talents.

His coaching résumé further expanded with assistant managerial positions at Standard Liège in Belgium and the Saudi Arabia national football team, where he gained valuable international experience. The appointment at Slovan Bratislava marks his first major role as a head coach at senior club level.Widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest footballers, Touré enjoyed a glittering playing career that saw him represent clubs such as FC Barcelona and Manchester City.

During his time at Manchester City, he won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and two League Cups, becoming one of the most influential midfielders in the club’s history.On the international stage, Touré earned over 100 caps for the Ivory Coast national football team and played a key role in the country’s triumph at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was also named African Footballer of the Year four consecutive times between 2011 and 2014. With his wealth of experience as both a player and coach, expectations will be high as he begins a new chapter with Slovan Bratislava.
