The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday said Bola Tinubu’s commitment to extending development to satellite towns and area councils is gradually becoming a reality through ongoing road infrastructure projects.
Wike made the remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the access road linking Tunga Madaki to Zuba in the FCT, held as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third year in office.
According to the minister, the project became possible due to the support of President Tinubu and the National Assembly.
He recalled that when the Bill Clinton Drive–Tunga Madaki road project was inaugurated, there were no immediate plans to extend it to the Abuja–Kaduna Highway through Zuba.
Wike explained that after the area council elections, the newly elected chairman appealed for the road extension, noting that residents from Zuba had to travel through Gwagwalada before accessing the city.
He stressed that the road project aligns with President Tinubu’s directive to connect all satellite communities and area councils to the city centre.
“What we are doing today is fulfilling the President’s promise that every satellite town and area council will benefit from the attention of this administration,” Wike said.
The FCT minister also praised the Chairman of the Zuba Area Council for facilitating the project, describing it as an example of purposeful leadership.
He noted that the road would significantly improve access for residents, especially communities located near the airport, who previously lacked a direct route despite being close to the facility.
Wike said the project would provide a direct link to the airport and improve connectivity for the benefiting communities.
The minister added that the ongoing infrastructure projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to developing the FCT and serve as a response to critics who claim that little is being achieved.
He expressed optimism that the road would be completed and commissioned before the end of the year.
