Bayelsa Queens Head Coach, Whyte Ogbonda, has charged his players to remain focused and determined as they begin their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six title defence against Abia Angels.

The Prosperity Ladies, who emerged champions of the 2025 edition in Ikenne, are once again among the favourites to challenge for the title following another impressive campaign.

Speaking ahead of their opening fixture, Ogbonda urged his players to show character, hunger and a winning mentality throughout the competition.
“We know what is at stake and the players understand the responsibility ahead of us,” Ogbonda said.

“This is a competition for champions and every team here deserves respect, but we must stay focused and approach every game with the right mentality.”

The Bayelsa Queens coach admitted that the team’s recent exit from the Federation Cup against Ibom Angels via penalties was disappointing, but insisted the setback has further motivated the squad ahead of the Super Six.
“Football is sometimes like that. We were disappointed with the Federation Cup result, but we have put that behind us and shifted our attention to the Super Six,” he added.

“We have a strong team, experienced players and the determination to compete for the title again.”
Bayelsa Queens remain one of the most successful and respected clubs in Nigerian women’s football, with a rich history of success both domestically and on the continent.
The Prosperity Ladies will open their campaign against Abia Angels as they look to make a strong start in Port Harcourt.
