Samuel Ogazi produced one of the greatest performances in NCAA history on Friday, storming to a collegiate-record 43.38 seconds to successfully defend his men’s 400-meter title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The Alabama standout’s remarkable run not only secured back-to-back national titles but also shattered the Nigerian national record and the University of Alabama school record. His time now ranks as the fourth-fastest 400m performance ever recorded globally.

Ogazi’s historic victory headlined an impressive day for Alabama Track and Field, which also celebrated two podium finishes in the men’s discus through Christopher Young and Christopher Crawford.
Young delivered a personal-best throw of 62.30m (204-5) in the second round of competition, a mark that held up through the second flight and earned him a place in the final. Crawford responded with his own personal best of 61.96m (203-3) in the second flight.

Following the final three rounds, Young secured fifth place while Crawford finished seventh, ensuring both athletes earned podium spots. Their performances also elevated them in Alabama’s record books, with Young moving to fifth all-time and Crawford climbing to sixth in program history.

Alabama’s strong showing continued with two additional All-America honours. Bismack Kipchirchir finished 10th nationally in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:39.46, while Trevor Gunzell placed 14th in the discus with a throw of 58.90m (193-3) to earn Second-Team All-America recognition for the second consecutive season.

Ogazi’s record-breaking triumph capped a memorable third day for the Crimson Tide, highlighting a championship campaign filled with historic performances and national acclaim.
