The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has passed away.He reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday.Professor Ambali, a respected academic and administrator, served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, where he led one of Nigeria’s most prominent federal universities through a period of academic growth and institutional development.

Until his death, he was also serving as Chairman of the Governing Council of KWASU.Before rising to top administrative leadership, Ambali built a distinguished academic career in veterinary medicine at the University of Ilorin, where he taught, conducted research, and mentored several generations of students.

He was widely regarded for his contributions to higher education and university governance in Nigeria.Tributes are expected to pour in from colleagues, students, and stakeholders in the education sector, who remember him as a calm, disciplined, and committed scholar who dedicated his life to academic excellence and service.

His death is a loss to Nigeria’s academic community, particularly within the University of Ilorin and Kwara State University systems, where he played key leadership roles and left a lasting institutional impact.
