Two yet-to-be-identified undergraduates have been reportedly killed following a suspected cult attack in the Ede area of Osun State.

According to sources, about six students were attacked in their off-campus apartment late at night by suspected cultists believed to be on a revenge mission.

A police source, who spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the incident, disclosed that the attack was linked to an ongoing rivalry between cult groups in the area.

“The students were in their room when the attackers forced their way into the apartment and assaulted them with dangerous weapons,” the source said.

“The victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, and two later died from the injuries they suffered.”
The source added that other injured students are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

An anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, also confirmed the incident, alleging that members of a rival cult group carried out the deadly attack.

According to the platform, the attackers reportedly traced a suspected Buccaneer member identified as Dara to the residence, where other alleged members were gathered.

“Aye members stormed the house and launched a brutal attack. Two persons, including the first mate and another member identified as SJ, were confirmed dead, while others, including the alleged leader of the group, are currently in critical condition,” the platform claimed.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, CSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that a cult clash occurred on Tuesday but stated that only one death had been officially recorded.
“Suspected cultists had a clash on Tuesday, and one person was killed. Investigation is ongoing,” Ojelabi said.
