The Secretary General, Nigeria Olympics committee (NOC) has received Nigeria U-18 Hockey5s international Isihaq Alimah Oluwakemi following her participation at the recently concluded U-18 Hockey5s Youth Africa Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.
Chief Popoola hosted the young hockey player alongside her grassroots coach, Jolayemi Oladele, on Monday evening in Osogbo, in a gesture aimed at celebrating Alimah’s achievement and appreciating chief Popoola a philanthropist who continued support for the grassroots development through the Jolad Hockey Academy and the wider Osun hockey community.

Alimah was part of the Nigeria U-18 women’s team that competed against some of Africa’s leading hockey nations at the tournament, gaining valuable international experience and representing both Osun State and Nigeria on the continental stage.
Speaking during the reception, Chief Popoola commended Alimah for her dedication, discipline and commitment to the sport, describing her international experience as an important step in her development as a young hockey player.
He also praised Coach Jolayemi Oladele for his consistency and commitment to identifying, nurturing and developing young hockey talents across Osun State.

Chief Popoola noted that the future of Nigerian hockey depends largely on the ability to discover young players at the grassroots level and provide them with the necessary support, facilities and opportunities to develop.
He has remained one of the prominent supporters of hockey development in Osun State, with his contributions extending beyond the hockey community to other sporting activities.
Beyond financial and material support, Chief Popoola has demonstrated a genuine passion for seeing young talents succeed. His willingness to identify with players such as Isihaq Alimah after representing Nigeria in Kenya reflects his commitment to celebrating and motivating the next generation of hockey stars.
His support for Jolad Hockey Academy and the wider Osun hockey community has also strengthened grassroots development, while his generosity towards other sporting activities shows that his passion extends beyond hockey.
At a time when many young athletes need encouragement, mentorship and support to pursue their dreams, Chief Popoola’s contribution stands out as a worthy example of sports philanthropy and community leadership.
His efforts deserve recognition, not only for what he has done in the past, but also for the hope and opportunities he continues to create for the next generation of athletes in Osun State and beyond.
He reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that will promote sports development and create opportunities for young athletes to realise their potential.
“I will continue to do my best to take the beautiful game of hockey to another level in Osun State and beyond,” Chief Popoola said.
For Coach Jolayemi Oladele, the reception was not only a celebration of Alimah’s achievement but also an opportunity to recognise the role played by individuals who continue to support grassroots sports development.
The event further highlighted the growing importance of grassroots academies in producing athletes capable of representing Nigeria at international competitions.
For Alimah, the reception marked another memorable moment in her young career as she returns home from Kenya with valuable international exposure and experience that could prove crucial to her future development.
