Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team, the Flamingos, Hakeem Busari, has applauded the Osun State Football Coaches Association for successfully organizing a three-day coaching seminar tagged “Train the Trainers,” describing the initiative as a significant step towards the development of grassroots football in Nigeria.
The seminar, which brought together football coaches from across Osun State and beyond, served as a platform for participants to improve their coaching knowledge, exchange ideas, and learn modern football techniques from experienced instructors.
Busari, a CAF A Licensed Instructor, expressed his admiration for the impressive turnout and commitment displayed by the coaches throughout the three-day programme. He noted that the level of participation reflected the passion of coaches in Osun State to continuously improve themselves and contribute meaningfully to football development.
Speaking during the seminar, Busari emphasized that the programme’s focus on training and retraining coaches is essential for the growth of the game, stressing that grassroots football remains the foundation upon which every successful football nation is built.
“Grassroots football is the brain of everything when it comes to football development. If we continue to equip our coaches with modern knowledge and practical skills, the benefits will be felt across all levels of the game,” he said.
The Flamingos coach commended the leadership of the Osun State Football Coaches Association for creating an avenue that enables coaches to enhance their technical and tactical understanding of the game. According to him, the knowledge gained during the seminar should be effectively applied in their various clubs and academies to help nurture the next generation of talented footballers.
Busari further stressed that investing in the education and development of coaches is one of the most effective ways to improve Nigerian football, as quality coaching at the grassroots level ultimately produces better players capable of competing on the national and international stage.
The CAF A Licensed Instructor also encouraged coaches to remain committed to continuous learning, noting that football is constantly evolving and that coaches must keep updating their knowledge to remain relevant in the modern game.
Looking ahead to international duty, Busari expressed confidence in Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. He appreciated the support and encouragement shown by Nigerians and urged fans to continue believing in the team.
He, however, emphasized that discipline, hard work, and total concentration will be vital as the Flamingos continue their preparations in camp, expressing optimism that the team will make the country proud at the global tournament.
