As the Flamingos prepare for the decisive second leg of the final phase of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African Qualifiers against Benin Republic, Head Coach Hakeem Busari has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness despite challenges faced in the first leg.
The encounter, scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Lomé, Togo, presents Nigeria with another opportunity to secure a place on the global stage after a less-than-convincing outing at home.
Speaking in a pre-match interview, Coach Busari admitted that the team had higher expectations going into the first leg but were unable to fully capitalize on their chances. He pointed to missed opportunities as a key factor that denied the Flamingos a more comfortable result.
According to him, the second leg now offers a chance for the team to correct those shortcomings and reclaim control of their World Cup qualification ambitions.
The coach revealed that significant work has been done in training, particularly in strengthening the defensive unit and improving individual performances across the squad. He also highlighted renewed focus on attacking efficiency, stressing the importance of converting chances when they come.
Addressing the psychological aspect of the game, Busari acknowledged the pressure that comes with playing such a crucial fixture away from home. He noted that the initial home fixture carried its own tension, which may have affected the players’ composure.
