The Governor of Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation operations across Lagos following the recent build-up of refuse in some parts of the state.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that relevant agencies, including the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, and the state Ministry of Environment, have intensified efforts to address the situation.
According to the governor, additional trucks and personnel have been deployed to clear waste backlogs in affected neighbourhoods, noting that residents should already be noticing improvements in several areas.
He assured Lagosians that the government would sustain the clean-up exercise until the city is restored to a satisfactory level of cleanliness.
The governor explained that Lagos generates more than 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, making waste management a major undertaking that requires continuous investment and coordinated efforts.
Despite the challenges, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving the current waste management issues and maintaining a cleaner environment across the state.
He also appealed to residents to support the government’s efforts by properly bagging their waste and refraining from dumping refuse in drainage channels, road medians, and other unauthorized locations.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that keeping Lagos clean is a collective responsibility, expressing confidence that the ongoing intervention would significantly improve sanitation across the state.
