President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State Government and ordered the deployment of a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The President disclosed this in a statement issued through his social media handle on Monday after a high-level Federal Government delegation visited the affected Esiele and Yawota communities on his directive. Tinubu said the new security measures are aimed at strengthening ongoing efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted schoolchildren and their teachers.
According to him, the request by residents for the establishment of a military base in the area is also receiving urgent consideration by the Federal Government. He assured the affected communities that the rescue operation would be intelligence-driven, carefully coordinated and sustained until all victims are safely returned.
“I share the pain and anxiety of the affected families. No child should be taken from the safety of a classroom. No parent should have to endure this anguish,” the President stated.
Tinubu added that the government would deploy every lawful tool available, both kinetic and non-kinetic, to ensure the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and protecting lives across the country.
The President also extended his condolences to Mrs. Mary Oyedokun and the family of the late school teacher who reportedly lost his life during the incident. He assured the family that the sacrifice of the deceased would not be forgotten and that the government would stand by them during this difficult period.
The Federal Government delegation that visited the communities was led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and included the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside other top security officials.
