Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reassured families of the pupils and teachers abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area that his administration will spare no effort in securing their safe and unharmed release.
The governor gave the assurance on Saturday during a sympathy and assessment visit to the Ahoro-Esiele community, where he met with affected families, traditional leaders, community representatives, and residents at the open field of L.A. Basic School.
Addressing the gathering, Makinde expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate incident, describing the abduction as painful, unacceptable, and a direct threat to the peace and security of the state.
He assured the grieving families that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, was intensifying efforts to ensure the victims regain their freedom as quickly as possible.
According to the governor, all relevant security formations have been mobilised and directed to sustain ongoing rescue operations, while intelligence gathering and coordinated efforts are being strengthened to track down the abductors and bring them to justice.
Makinde stressed that his administration remains fully committed to protecting the lives and property of residents across the state, noting that no responsible government would fold its arms while innocent citizens are subjected to such traumatic experiences.
He urged members of the affected communities not to lose hope, assuring them that the government would continue to work round the clock until the abducted pupils and teachers are safely reunited with their families.
The governor also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security operatives by volunteering credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue missions.
Community leaders and residents who spoke during the visit appreciated the governor for personally identifying with them in their moment of pain and for demonstrating commitment towards resolving the crisis.
The visit further provided an opportunity for the governor and top government officials to assess the security situation in the area and engage stakeholders on measures aimed at preventing future occurrences.
