The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has officially announced former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the announcement on Saturday shortly after he was formally confirmed as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development marks a major political alliance between two influential northern and southern political figures, as both leaders seek to strengthen the NDC’s chances in the upcoming polls.

The NDC had earlier ratified Obi as its consensus presidential candidate during the party’s nationwide primaries held across the country on Saturday.

Obi and Kwankwaso recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, citing lingering internal crises, leadership disputes, and multiple court cases within the ADC as reasons for their exit.

Political observers believe the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket could significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, considering the widespread support base both politicians command across different regions of the country.
