Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has said security authorities were responsible for uncovering and reporting the alleged coup plot, stressing that democratic governance remains superior to military rule.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Musa revealed that he personally convened the committee that investigated the alleged coup attempt. According to him, the investigation was initiated to ensure that those involved were identified and held accountable in line with the law.The Defence Minister described the plot as unfortunate and unnecessary, noting that democracy offers a better system of governance than any military regime.

He said the incident should serve as a lesson to younger officers and citizens that unconstitutional changes of government do not benefit any nation.Musa also expressed disappointment over the calibre of individuals allegedly involved in the plot, describing them as confused and inexperienced junior officials. He said many of those implicated appeared not to fully understand the implications of their actions.

He added that the prosecution process is ongoing and that all suspects are being given the opportunity to present their side of the story. According to him, the authorities are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent judicial process while reinforcing the country’s democratic institutions.
