Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has resigned as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Gusau reportedly announced his resignation on Thursday afternoon in Abuja while addressing journalists at a press conference.
The resignation comes shortly after the Super Falcons’ disappointing campaign at the just-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria failed to secure qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Gusau had been expected to participate in the NFF election scheduled for next month, where he was expected to seek another term in office.
The development has now created uncertainty ahead of the forthcoming election, with attention shifting to who will lead the federation following his departure.
Reports also indicate that other members of the NFF leadership have resigned alongside Gusau, although further details are still expected regarding the transition and the process for installing a new leadership.
