As anticipation builds for the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, Super Falcons forward Rinsola Babajide has underlined the added significance of this year’s tournament, with World Cup qualification serving as a major incentive.
The competition, scheduled to run from July 26 to August 16, will feature an expanded format, increasing from 12 to 16 teams. While this development is expected to heighten competitiveness across the continent, Babajide insists it does little to alter Nigeria’s primary objective retaining their continental crown.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, the AS Roma Femminile forward acknowledged that the expanded lineup would bring more excitement and intensity but maintained that the Falcons’ winning mentality remains unchanged.
According to her, the dual stakes of continental glory and World Cup qualification only reinforce the team’s determination, rather than add pressure.
