The Nigeria Hockey Super League 2026 got off to a thrilling start as Matchday One produced exciting contests, emphatic victories and a total of 39 goals at the National Hockey Pitch, Package B, National Stadium, Abuja.
Seven matches were played across the men’s and women’s categories, with defending women’s champions Kada Queens making an early statement, while other title hopefuls also opened their campaigns on a winning note.
Defending champions Kada Queens began their quest for another league title in impressive style, cruising to a 6-0 victory over Southwest. The champions dominated from the opening whistle, with Joy Christopher delivering a standout performance to claim the Player of the Match award.
Last season’s runners-up, Plateau Queens, also enjoyed a convincing start, defeating IGP Babes 5-0. Mabel Ogbu was named Player of the Match after an influential display.
Delta Queens secured maximum points after being awarded a 5-0 walkover victory against Yobe Desert Queens.

The men’s competition also delivered plenty of excitement. Stallions opened with a composed 2-0 victory over Adamawa State, with Samuel Oladiran earning the Player of the Match award.
Niger Flickers and Plateau Tigers played out one of the most entertaining matches of the day, settling for a 2-2 draw. Tolu Odedokun was recognised as the Player of the Match.
Police Machine recorded the biggest victory of Matchday One, thrashing IGP Flickers 9-1 in a ruthless attacking display. Gabriel Ali stole the show with four goals and was deservedly named Player of the Match.
Kada Stars wrapped up the day’s fixtures with a convincing 4-0 victory over Southwest. Elkana Baccas produced an outstanding performance to earn the Player of the Match award.
