Renowned sports administrator and former Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Aisha Falode, has lauded the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, and influential football stakeholder Jarret Tenebe, Chairman of Insurance of Benin, for their instrumental roles in Edo Queens’ triumphant return to the summit of Nigerian women’s football.
Edo Queens were crowned champions of the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six on Sunday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, completing a remarkable campaign that showcased resilience, determination, and championship pedigree.
Despite suffering an opening-day defeat to Nasarawa Amazons, the Benin-based side responded emphatically, thrashing FC Robo Queens 4-1 and Abia Angels 6-2 before edging Rivers Angels 2-1. A disciplined goalless draw against defending champions Bayelsa Queens in their final fixture was enough to seal the title with 10 points, securing the club’s second league crown in three seasons.
Reacting to the achievement, Falode described the victory as a testament to visionary leadership, effective administration, and unwavering support from key stakeholders.
“Winning the NWFL Premiership title is difficult, but reclaiming it after losing the opening match requires exceptional mental strength, quality leadership, and strong institutional backing,” Falode said.
“I must specially commend the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, and Jarret Tenebe for their immense contributions. Their strategic direction, logistical support, and commitment to the welfare of the players ensured the team remained focused on its championship objective throughout the competition.”
Falode noted that Edo Queens’ success further reinforces Edo State’s enduring reputation as one of Nigeria’s foremost sporting powerhouses.
“The job is not done yet. This success calls for even greater commitment as the team prepares for the regional qualifiers and the challenge of competing for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League,” she stated.

With the league title secured, Edo Queens have earned Nigeria’s sole ticket to the forthcoming WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Burkina Faso, where they will begin their quest for continental glory and a place at the prestigious CAF Women’s Champions League.
