The 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six got off to a thrilling start in Port Harcourt as Matchday 1 delivered intensity, late drama and impressive performances from teams determined to lay down early title markers.

Nasarawa Amazons opened the tournament with a disciplined and hard-fought 1-0 victory over Edo Queens. In a tightly contested battle filled with tactical play and defensive resilience, Adaobi Okah produced the decisive moment in the 61st minute, firing home the winner to hand the Amazons a valuable three points and an early advantage in the title race.

Hosts Rivers Angels then treated fans to a pulsating five-goal thriller, edging FC Robo Queens 3-2 in one of the most entertaining games of the day. Grace Saliu struck early to ignite the atmosphere before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi delivered a match-winning performance with a superb brace, including a dramatic late winner in the 80th minute.

FC Robo Queens refused to back down, responding through Abasiofon Uwah and Ramotalahi Kareem in a spirited display, but Rivers Angels showed composure and determination to seal victory in front of their home supporters.

In the final fixture of the day, defending champions Bayelsa Queens were held to a 1-1 draw by resilient debutants Abia Angels. Harmony Chidi looked to have handed Bayelsa the perfect start after scoring in the 56th minute, but Abia Angels responded almost immediately as Mariam Abdulrasheed calmly restored parity just two minutes later to secure a deserved point for the newcomers.

From dramatic finishes to fearless performances, Matchday 1 proved why the NWFL Premiership Super Six remains the biggest stage in Nigerian women’s football.
