Nigeria’s D’Tigers returned to winning ways in impressive fashion, defeating Cape Verde 100-84 in the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.
The victory came after Nigeria suffered a disappointing defeat to South Sudan, making the win over Cape Verde an important result for the team as they continue their qualification campaign.
D’Tigers made a strong start to the game and quickly took control of the contest. Nigeria dominated the first quarter, ending it with a comfortable 23-9 lead over Cape Verde.
The Nigerian team continued their strong performance in the second quarter, maintaining their advantage with good attacking play and solid defence. D’Tigers went into the halftime break with a 52-35 lead.
Cape Verde tried to fight back after the break, but Nigeria remained in control of the game. D’Tigers continued to find points while keeping their opponents from making a serious comeback.
By the end of the game, Nigeria had completed an impressive 100-84 victory over Cape Verde.
Caleb Agada was one of Nigeria’s standout players, producing an excellent performance with 26 points, 8/11 from three-point range, 7 assists and 4 rebounds.
Josh Okogie also made a major contribution to the victory, finishing with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals.
The performances of Agada and Okogie helped D’Tigers control the game and secure a much-needed victory in the African Qualifiers.
The result gives Nigeria renewed confidence as the team looks ahead to the next window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers, with qualification still firmly in sight as they continue their push for a place at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
