Bayelsa United have appointed experienced tactician Abdu Maikaba as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
Maikaba, who also serves as the head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, has been handed the responsibility of guiding the Prosperity Boys back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following their relegation last season.
The highly respected coach brings a wealth of experience to Yenagoa, having previously managed several top Nigerian clubs, including Akwa United, Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourists, Plateau United, and Rangers International. He is widely remembered for leading Akwa United to victory in the 2017 Federation Cup, while also enjoying successful spells with Enyimba and Wikki Tourists.
Bayelsa United will be hoping Maikaba’s vast experience and winning mentality can inspire an immediate return to the top flight as preparations for the new NNL campaign gather pace.
