NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko Assures Nigeria Hockey Federation of Federal Government Support

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the growth of hockey in Nigeria.
Dikko made the pledge during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League held at the Hockey Pitch inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Speaking at the event, the NSC Chairman said the Renewed Hope agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on developing sports across the country through improved infrastructure and sustainable investment. He assured stakeholders that hockey would not be left out of the Federal Government’s plans to revamp the nation’s sporting facilities and promote sports development.

The 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League concluded with Kada Stars Hockey Club emerging as champions in the men’s category, while Kada Queens Hockey Club claimed the women’s league title after an impressive campaign.

The closing ceremony attracted several dignitaries, former Senator representing Kaduna central Shehu Sani, the Senate Committee on Sports Abdul Ningi, and the President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation Engineer Simon Nkom, alongside members of the federation’s board.

The ceremony brought the curtain down on another successful edition of the Nigeria Hockey Super League, with stakeholders expressing optimism that increased government support will further elevate the standard of hockey in the country.
