Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) forward, Adegoke Qamar, has reflected on his performance in the just-concluded season, expressing gratitude for his 10-goal contribution while insisting there is still room for improvement in his game.
Speaking in an interview, Qamar said his goal return was a product of collective effort rather than individual brilliance.
“I’m grateful for the 10 goals, but football is a team game. Every goal came because of the work my teammates put in, the assists, the defensive work, the sacrifices. I feel proud of my contribution to the Oluyole Warriors, but I know I can still give more. There were games I could have done better, and that’s what drives me in training every day,” he said.
The forward also spoke about Shooting Stars’ return to continental football after 27 years, describing qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup as a huge achievement for the club and its supporters.
“Qualifying for CAF is massive for this club and our fans. With the current leadership and structure, the mandate is clear, we go there to compete, not just participate. Fans should expect a team that fights for every ball, respects the badge, and represents Nigeria and Oyo State with pride. It won’t be easy, but this group has the mentality for it,” Qamar stated.
On his future ambitions, the striker admitted that playing in Europe remains one of his dreams but stressed that his immediate focus remains on Shooting Stars.
“Every footballer dreams of testing himself at the highest level. Europe is definitely a goal I still hope to achieve. For now, my focus is 100 per cent on Shooting Stars and the Confederation Cup. If opportunities come, my agent and the club will handle it. I’m not chasing moves, I’m chasing growth,” he added.
Qamar credited his family, coaches and personal discipline for shaping his football career.
“My family, first and foremost. My coaches who believed in me when I was raw. And discipline, the little habits; extra finishing after training, watching game footage, recovery, diet. People don’t see those days, but they build a career,” he said.
Reflecting on his most memorable moment of the season, the striker pointed to his goal against Rivers United at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
“Has to be scoring Rivers United at the Lekan Salami Stadium with a full crowd when it was needed the most and also the impact it had staying at the top. Hearing the Oluyole Warriors sing after the goal, that feeling is unmatched. It reminds me why I play,” he recalled.
The 3SC forward reserved special praise for the club’s supporters, acknowledging the vital role they played throughout the campaign.
“The 3SC fans carried us. Even when results were tough, they stayed, they believed. On days I was low, their support pushed me to give 100 per cent. This season is for them,” Qamar said.
Looking ahead to next season, the forward revealed his desire to improve both individually and collectively with the team.
“Individually, I want to improve my numbers, but also my all-round game, hold-up play and work rate off the ball. As a team, I want to help us go far and compete for the NPFL title. Individual goals mean nothing without team success,” he stated.
On handling expectations and pressure, Qamar maintained that pressure comes with responsibility.
“Pressure is a privilege. If you’re not being counted on, it means you’re not important. I handle it by staying calm, trusting my preparation and remembering I’m just doing what I love. Big games are why I play football,” he said.
The striker also identified consistency in front of goal with his weaker foot and improving his movement between the lines as areas he intends to work on.
“Consistency in front of goal with my weaker foot, and my movement between the lines. I work on those daily with the coaches. A complete striker never stops learning,” he concluded.
Qamar ended with a heartfelt message to the club’s supporters, thanking them for their unwavering support throughout the season.
“Thank you for standing with us through every high and low. You are the 12th man. We felt your energy every match. Next season, we’ll give you even more to cheer about. he said
