Suspected bandits have abducted six students of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda after attacking their off-campus residence in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.The incident occurred at a student lodge located on the outskirts of the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town.
Local authorities and security agencies have since commenced efforts to secure the release of the victims.Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the development, assuring residents that security operatives were actively working to rescue the abducted students and return them safely to their families.A student of the institution, Ibrahim Ahmad, revealed that one of the victims managed to escape shortly after the attack.
According to him, the remaining captives include three male and three female students.Reacting to the incident, the Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda condemned the worsening insecurity in the area, alleging that notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Bello Dansadiya and his gang were behind a series of attacks and kidnappings in the locality. The group cited previous cases involving the abduction of lecturers and community leaders, many of whom are reportedly still in captivity.
The Zamfara State Police Command also confirmed the attack. Police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar said one victim escaped while six others remain in captivity.
He disclosed that operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, working alongside troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, have launched a coordinated operation to rescue the students, while assuring that security within the polytechnic campus remains intact.
