Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has accepted responsibility for Nigeria’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Super Eagles struggled to impose themselves on the game, with Guinea-Bissau taking control and eventually securing a convincing victory.
Chelle, speaking after the match, apologised to Nigerian supporters and acknowledged that the hosts were the better team on the night.
“I apologise to the fans. Guinea-Bissau were the better side. The pitch is also bad, but we accept responsibility,” the coach said.
Nigeria found it difficult to create clear-cut chances throughout the encounter, while defensive lapses allowed Guinea-Bissau to score three goals.
The result will come as a setback to the Super Eagles, who will now have to regroup and focus on their remaining qualifying fixtures as they seek to strengthen their position in the race for the 2027 AFCON.
