The outcome of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifying final between Nigeria’s Edo Queens and Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies has come under review following a protest from the Ghanaian side.
The two teams played out a 2-2 draw in the final at Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5, before Edo Queens went on to secure a 4-1 victory on penalties. The result initially saw the Nigerian champions crowned WAFU B champions and awarded the zone’s qualification place for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
However, Ampem Darkoa reportedly challenged the decision to proceed directly to a penalty shootout after the match ended level, arguing that the competition regulations required extra time to be played before penalties could be used to determine the winner.
The reported dispute centres on the application of the WAFU B competition regulations, with the protest questioning whether the required two 15-minute periods of extra time should have been played before the penalty shootout.
Edo Queens had initially prevailed 4-1 from the spot after the 2-2 draw, with the victory completing an impressive campaign that included a 5-1 semi-final win over hosts USFA.
The final itself saw Ampem Darkoa take an early lead through Berline Nyarko before Dooshima Tarnum restored parity for Edo Queens. Nyarko later converted a penalty to put the Ghanaian champions back in front, but substitute Oluebube Umejiaku scored late to make it 2-2 and force the shootout.
If the reported protest is upheld and CAF determines that the final must be completed in accordance with the extra-time provisions, the two sides would resume from the 2-2 scoreline and play two 15-minute periods of extra time. Penalties would then be required only if the teams remain level after the additional 30 minutes.
The eventual winner would claim the WAFU B qualification place for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
