The Online Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, has paid courtesy visits to the state Ministries of Culture and Tourism and Lands and Physical Planning, reaffirming its commitment to promoting professionalism and fostering partnerships with government institutions.

The visits were aimed at strengthening relationships between the chapel and the ministries while exploring opportunities for collaboration in advancing culture, tourism, land administration and public communication in Osun State.

Chapel Seeks Partnership with Culture and Tourism Ministry
During the visit to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Chairman of the Online Media Chapel, Isa Isawade, congratulated the Commissioner, Hon. Abiodun Bankole, on the recent electoral victory in the state.

Isawade introduced the chapel, explaining that its establishment was necessitated by the influx of unprofessional practitioners into the online media space.

He said the chapel was established to serve as a bridge between the public and credible media practitioners, adding that its members were committed to supporting the development of culture and tourism through professional journalism and strategic partnerships.

The chairman also introduced members of the delegation who accompanied him.
Responding, Commissioner Bankole described online media as pertinent in the current information age, noting that social media has increasingly become a source of concern.

Bankole encouraged members of the chapel to embrace investigative journalism and shared his experience of being disappointed by a one-sided media report.
The commissioner urged journalists to uphold fairness, accuracy and professionalism in their reportage, stressing the importance of filtering information before publication.

Bankole also spoke about the achievements of the present administration, contrasting them with what he described as unsustainable projects undertaken by the previous administration.

He said the current administration had focused on people-oriented projects and a campaign based on evidence of activities rather than promises.
The commissioner expressed appreciation to the people of Osun State for their support and attributed the electoral victory to God.
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing its conduct of the election as fair and transparent.
Bankole further recounted how his 15-year-old son had congratulated him shortly after the voting exercise, expressing confidence in a 70 per cent victory. He, however, noted that the INEC Result Viewing (IREV) portal later stopped working.

He charged members of the chapel to remain diligent and dedicated to their duties, assuring them of his willingness to work with the organisation.
The commissioner also urged  journalists to feel free to criticise his ministry constructively and wished the chapel success.
In his response, Isawade thanked the commissioner for the warm reception and assured him that the chapel would not disappoint.

Lands Ministry Assures Chapel of Partnership

At the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, the chapel chairman congratulated the Commissioner, George Bibitayo Alabi, and outlined the purpose, objectives and aspirations of the organisation.

Commissioner Alabi expressed appreciation to the chapel and disclosed that he had been following its activities, which he said had impressed him.

Mr Alabi assured the delegation of open access to himself and officials of the ministry, while welcoming constructive criticism and observations that could improve the ministry’s operations.

The commissioner also highlighted what he described as the highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) recorded by Osun State, attributing the development to efforts to block leakages, reduce unnecessary expenditure and tackle corruption within the system.

Alabi spoke about the temptations associated with his office, revealing that he had received offers aimed at persuading him to bend rules or compromise established procedures.

He, however, said his determination to do what is right and maintain his integrity had remained his driving force.

The commissioner thanked the chapel for the visit and pledged his support for its activities and development.
