The Chairmen of the Football Associations across Nigeria’s six South-West states have unanimously endorsed the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, as their sole candidate for re-election ahead of the Federation’s next presidential election.
The endorsement was announced in a communiqué issued after the South-West FA Chairmen’s meeting held on Tuesday, which was attended by all the Football Association Chairmen from the region, alongside the Second Vice President of the NFF, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye.
During the meeting, the Chairmen reviewed developments in Nigerian football and discussed key issues affecting the administration and growth of the game across the country.
According to the communiqué signed by the Chairman of the South-West Football Association Chairmen Forum, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, the forum unanimously resolved to adopt Gusau as its preferred candidate for another term, citing his leadership and achievements since assuming office.
The Chairmen praised Gusau’s “visionary and purposeful leadership,” highlighting his commitment to strengthening football administration and promoting sustainable football development nationwide.
They also commended the NFF President’s consistent advocacy for improved football infrastructure, noting that several state governments have responded positively by embarking on the construction and rehabilitation of stadiums and other football facilities.
The forum further applauded the current administration’s prudent and transparent management of the Federation’s finances, stating that despite prevailing financial constraints and limited allocations, the NFF has continued to ensure Nigeria’s national teams remain actively involved in international competitions.
As part of their resolutions, the South-West FA Chairmen appealed to football stakeholders, supporters, and the general public to continue supporting the Nigeria Football Federation. They expressed confidence that the current leadership is making steady progress in addressing the challenges facing Nigerian football while laying a solid foundation for long-term growth and success.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by the South-West Football Association Chairmen to continue working closely with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation and other relevant stakeholders to advance football development at all levels across Nigeria.
