Osun State Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Anthony Olabiyi Odunlade, has commended Governor Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke for what he described as an outstanding performance in office, saying the governor has exceeded the expectations of many residents through his administration’s achievements.

Speaking during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Guest Platform in Osogbo, Dr. Odunlade said the Adeleke administration has recorded significant progress, particularly in infrastructure development and workers’ welfare. According to him, ongoing projects across the state and the government’s commitment to the well-being of civil servants are clear indicators of purposeful leadership.

The commissioner argued that African politics should shift its focus from political ideology and party dominance to governance driven by performance and the delivery of democratic dividends. He stressed the need for a new political structure in Nigeria that prioritises visionary leadership, accountability and policies that improve the lives of citizens.

Dr. Odunlade also maintained that the Accord Party remains a progressive political platform, claiming it has consistently demonstrated its commitment to youth development through political appointments and the inclusion of young people in leadership positions. He said meaningful youth participation is essential for strengthening democracy and fostering national development.

Expressing concern over Nigeria’s political landscape, the commissioner warned against the emergence of a one-party state, noting that such a development would not serve the interests of the country’s democracy or its citizens. He appealed to the Federal Government to create an enabling environment for opposition parties to operate freely, insisting that a vibrant opposition is necessary for accountability, healthy political competition and good governance.

Dr. Odunlade concluded by urging political leaders at all levels to place national interest above partisan considerations and focus on policies that promote sustainable development, economic growth and improved living standards for Nigerians. He reaffirmed that governance should always be measured by performance and the positive impact it has on the people.
