Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged Nigerians to embrace home gardening as a sustainable way to improve household food security after harvesting vegetables from her home garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Photos shared on Monday by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, showed the First Lady harvesting fresh vegetables from the garden, which was established about two years ago under the Every Home A Garden initiative.
Following the harvest, Mrs. Tinubu shared some of the vegetables with members of her staff, using the gesture to encourage a culture of generosity and community support.
She urged Nigerians to take advantage of available spaces in their homes to cultivate vegetables and other crops, describing home gardening as a practical means of providing fresh food for families while reducing household food costs.
The Every Home A Garden initiative was introduced to promote backyard farming, improve nutrition, and encourage self-sufficiency among Nigerian households amid growing concerns over food security.
