The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is represented by incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who is seeking a second term in office. Oyebanji has campaigned on the achievements of his administration, highlighting investments in infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and security. His supporters argue that continuity is necessary to consolidate ongoing developmental projects across the state.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oluwole Oluyede, enters the race with promises of economic revitalization, job creation and expanded social welfare programmes. The PDP has positioned itself as a viable alternative, insisting that Ekiti deserves a new direction that prioritizes broader economic opportunities and improved living standards.
Representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oluwadare Bejide has emerged as a significant force in the election, buoyed by the growing influence of coalition politics across the country. They include Opeyemi Falegan of the Accord Party, Oyebanji Olajuyin of the Labour Party (LP), Blessing Abegunde of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Bidemi Awogbemi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ayodeji Ojo of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Samuel Akande of the African Action Congress (AAC), Olaniyi Ayodele of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Victor Adetunji of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Olu Omotoso of the Action Alliance (AA), Joseph Anifowose of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Ayodele Osinkolu of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Security agencies have assured residents of adequate protection throughout the voting process. The Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defence Corps and other security formations have deployed personnel across the state to ensure a peaceful, credible and violence-free election.
INEC has also assured voters of the readiness of electoral officials and materials, with arrangements made for the deployment of personnel to polling units across the state. The commission urged voters to arrive early, comply with electoral guidelines and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise.
The election is expected to serve as an important political barometer ahead of future electoral contests in the South-West and across Nigeria. Political analysts say the outcome will not only determine Ekiti’s next governor but could also influence political calculations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
